What All-Natural Mange Treatment For Dogs And Cats Can I Make?

by Wendell Ruben

Mange is caused by mites, and they should not be mistaken for fleas. That’s because mites live and feed beneath the skin of your pet. When they go out of control, it can be a real problem, even putting your pet’s life at risk. It’s very important to manage and treat infestation. There are some effective homemade mange treatment for dogs and cats you might want to try.

A leave-on solution for controlling proliferation and spread of mites is easy to do. For this, you will need 1-2 tbsp of borax and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in 0.5 liters of water. Mix it thoroughly after the powder’s completely dissolved. Apply it all over your pet, leaving the solution there to air dry. Once-a-week application is ideal.

Use warm water and soap for bathing them. It will keep your pet clean and fresh smelling. Also, it can help in keeping proliferation of mites under control. If pets scratch too frequently, giving them a bath daily or even twice a day is good enough. When using shampoo, opt for something that has almond or lavender oil.

Slice a lemon and place them in a boiling cup of water. Remember to include the peel as well. Let it steep overnight, then apply on affected skin areas using a sponge or cotton ball. You may also use honey to achieve the same effect. However, use a local or pure one, and not the type you usually find at grocery stores.

You can also make topical remedies for mange out of things that may already be in your kitchen. Cooking oil is great for killing mites. It also softens the wax-like deposits on your pet’s skin, and soothes itchiness and irritation. The acidophilus in yogurt can also do wonders. However, stick to unflavored or unsweetened yogurt variety. Affected skin is prone to infections. For this, the antibacterial properties of garlic oil mixed with water will help keep infection at bay.

Did you know that most pets already got mites, including healthy ones? When the number of those parasites go out of control, that’s the time when mange problem begins. Applying some preventive measures can save your beloved pets from mite infestation. By doing so, mange treatment for dogs and cats may not have to be necessary.

As much as possible, regularly wash or clean their beddings, or any other article they sleep on. Likewise, cleanse areas in the house where your pet frequently stays. Using soap and water will suffice. Give your dog or cat frequent bathing as well. This is a great way to keep the number of mites in control.

A weak immune system and poor nutritional intake are some causes of mange. Ask your trusted vet on which food is best for your dog or cat. You might try adding chopped green and leafy vegetables to their regular food to boost its nutritional contents. A teaspoon of fish oil or echinacea tea will help in improving the natural immunity of your pet.

Home-made mange treatment for dogs and cats are best backed up with a vet’s check up. As soon as the early signs of mite infestation show up, take your pet to the veterinary clinic. With regular supervision, your dog or cat will be back in the pink of health.
