French Bulldog Rescue: A Worthwhile Cause

by Bobby Callahan

Most states have a Bulldog rescue and can be contacted by telephone or the Internet. If you find a French bulldog in need of help contact your nearest rescue league representatives as they are very eager to help. Rescue units have also created websites with photos of the French Bulldogs waiting to be adopted. The websites are very useful as they provide very good information about the history, special needs and characteristics of any particular dog they are sheltering. One can also find lists of events for participating in fundraising activities and donations.

Anyone desiring to adopt this special dog must carefully consider the responsibility of caring for a French bulldog. This dog needs tender loving care on a continual basis otherwise it will behave horribly. Bulldogs need to feel that they are part of a family and are lost if neglected. The breed type of French Bulldogs make it intolerant to heat and cannot be left outdoors unattended for long periods of time. If the dog is exposed to heat beyond its tolerance level death is imminent. They are best as an indoor dog within an air-conditioned area.

The main objective of a French Bulldog rescue is to find loving homes for abandoned, strays and unwanted dogs. The Centers are non-profit run and all volunteered staff in most regions of the United States. On a yearly basis the centers place hundreds of dogs in happy homes. Many of the pups are only weeks old when they arrive at the rescue. Torn from their mother causes them to have severe health issues, genetic disorders and challenging behavioral problems due to neglect and abuse.

It is very important that the dogs are kept cool at all times as they are very intolerant to heat. If the French Bulldog is overly exposed to heat it will have difficulty breathing and excessive panting. The best remedy is to cool them down as quickly as possible with a cold shower or bath.

They require a good deal of your attention and they are best kept indoors in an air conditioned place. French Bulldogs require patience and understanding and it is important that the potential owner and dog are correctly matched.

To begin finding information about a French Bulldog rescue in your area look to your local pet fairs, dog fairs or pet supply stores. They set up information tables for anyone who is interested. The Internet is also a direct route to any of the individual French Bulldog rescue websites. The sites provide adoption forms, descriptions and photos of the many the French bulldogs waiting for placement as well as information about responsible dog ownership.

The dog and owner must be thoroughly matched and the volunteer staff at any French Bulldog rescue will give careful consideration to ensure this part of the adoption process is achieved. The dogs can be quite challenging as they are very messy when eating and drinking. Consequently if you abhor untidiness then reconsider adopting this special dog. They need a lot of attention due to grooming requirements. The bulldog will develop painful infections if their wrinkles are not cleaned regularly.

They are extremely intolerant to heat because of their face shape and without supervision during the hot season outdoors, they can be in danger of death. The ideal situation for a bulldog rescue dog is with an owner who is committed to providing a lot a love, care and attention for this sensitive breed.
