How To Train A Cat Advice
While it is mostly easy to train a cat, there is always one feline that will not be easily molded to follow your house rules. Knowing how to train a cat properly is very crucial if you are in this kind of situation.
You may know cats to be stubborn, but you should also be aware that they have certain standards when it comes to where they do their business. It has to be in a certain place that they like. A little box is one example. If you train your cat to use the litter box at an early age, you will have no problem with the cat eliminating its waste anywhere else.
So, you’d basically want to start with training your cat to use his litter box. Your task in this regard is to keep the litter box clean. If it’s already full and dirty, clean it right away. If you forget to do this one little thing, you will be rewarded with a misbehaving cat. Kittens, for example, will soil the laundry or some house furniture if they find their litter box not to their liking when it comes to cleanliness. If this happens, you will find it difficult to retrain them to use the litter box. So to save you grief, you must always clean the litter box.
The perfect time to train your cat is when it is still a kitten. There are easy ways to make it realize that the litter box is for eliminating waste. First thing in the morning, take the kitten out of its kennel and place it in the litter box. Doing it right after a meal or a water break will also make the cat associate the litter box with removing waste. If you see it looking for a place to do its business, pick it up and place it in the box. Your kitten will be smart enough to know what the box is for.
The thing about cats is that they do not care if you praise their good behavior or not. They are not like dogs that can easily be trained with a few nice words or displays of affection. Cats will need to be taught that there is a certain way of doing things and they have to do it.
For example, if you cannot be with your cat all the time, you must leave it in only one room. The litter box should also be in this room so that it can do its business while you’re gone. If they do not use the litter box, pick up the waste with a scoop and put it in the box. Your cat will eventually get the idea.
If you want other training tools, you can search online or at your local pet stores. They will surely have aids that will help you in training your cats.
But do not rely heavily on these tools. Your loving guidance should be the number one tool in training your cat. You have to do it consistently, patiently, and lovingly. Eventually, your cat will follow what you ask of him to do. If this happens, your training is successful.
